So good afternoon, everyone. I'm Dr McComas, very proud superintendent of our Kent County Public Schools, and I hope this message finds you warm and comfortable on this very cold day.
The weather has certainly made the start of 2025 a challenge for all of us and our schools.
I personally want to thank you for your patience and your support, as I know you have waited each day to hear from us about whether or not school will be in session based on the conditions outside.
I want to thank our parents and our families for making the pivot to virtual learning. I know we all prefer school to be held in person, but in the interest of everyone's safety and keeping our students engaged and moving forward in their work, some days we've had to go virtual, and that could not happen without parents and families.
I also want to thank our students for engaging in your virtual classes and keeping your learning moving forward, so that we waste no time.
And to all of our educators, I want to thank you for your flexibility and being ready and able to deliver engaging lessons in an online format.
I also want to thank our staff for your support in keeping our operations up and running despite the conditions.
I want to also give a huge shout out to our operations team, who, every day, worked diligently to clear parking lots and sidewalks and to our bus drivers who were ready to go as soon as we said the roads were safe.
And a special thank you also goes out to our state and county road crews for their tireless efforts to make the roads safe so that we could reopen buildings and return students in person.
I've discovered this winter how well we as Kent County come together when the going gets tough, and I appreciate all of your support each and every day.
Thank you and stay warm!
