ROCK HALL — Phillip Seymore was honored with this month's Golden Anchor Award for his hard work and dedication to Kent County Public Schools.
Seymore, a custodian working in several buildings, received his award from the Kent County Board of Education Monday night, April 14.
The Golden Anchor Award is presented each month to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.
“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.
Nominations may be submitted by Kent County Public Schools staff members, parents and students.
Director of Human Resources Dan Hushion surprised Seymore with the award at the April 14 Board meeting, reading from the nomination letters submitted on Seymore's behalf.
Several of the letters spoke to the hard work he put in at Galena Elementary School in recent months for a thorough cleaning of the building.
"Mr. Seymore arrived with a readiness to help and a smile on his face, and he demonstrated a genuine care for both the staff and students as he worked," read one letter. "His commitment went beyond just cleaning the school — he created an atmosphere of kindness and teamwork."
Seymore is often seen at Kent County High School, where, as another letter-writer noted, he helps ensure that students are in a friendly, caring and clean environment.
