CHESTERTOWN — The Kent County Family YMCA, a community partner of Kent County Public Schools, has kicked off summer camp at its new facility and space is still available for children in several of the programs.
The YMCA has so many fun and exciting things planned for this summer, such as group games, daily art projects, swim time, nature walks and so much more.
Although the traditional camps are full, there are spaces open in the YMCA's specialty camps: Shoremen Basketball Camp, Pickleball Camp and the Cooking Camps.
Shoremen Basketball Camp
Campers will have the opportunity to learn and improve their basketball skills through the Shoremen Basketball Camp hosted by the Washington College basketball teams.
This camp will focus on teaching everyone from beginners to pros the fundamentals of the sport and will work with the campers to improve their skills and also help build their sportsmanship.
What is known as the fastest growing sport in America, pickleball is a fun, social and friendly sport that combines the skills of tennis, badminton and ping pong into a competitive game that will keep your campers moving.
The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game.
This camp will focus on teaching the rules, proper form and the fundamentals of the sport along with installing love for this fun sport.
Does your child have a sweet tooth? Have they explored their skills in the kitchen?
The YMCA's specialty cooking camps are just what your child needs to master their skills in the kitchen and make some sweet treats that they can take home and share.
The new facility houses a fully functioning industrial kitchen that the YMCA would be silly to not take advantage of.
Safety is always the priority. Not only will campers learn the fundamentals of baking and cooking, counselors will be emphasizing the practice of safety in the kitchen.
