The Student Service Department provides comprehensive services for all students. We are committed to enhancing student achievement in all areas of the school setting.
Student Services is responsible for implementing programs and initiatives to facilitate the emotional, mental, social and physical health of all students. These programs and initiatives include, but are not limited to, school counseling, career development, school health services, safe and drug-free schools, dropout prevention, alternative programs, home/hospital instruction, discipline, multicultural education, out-of-zone school placement, student registration, attendance, home schooling, student records, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), 504 plan development, the Maryland Student Assistance Program (MSAP) and the education of homeless students.
The research is clear that there is an inextricable link between children's social, emotional, mental and physical health and their ability to learn. The focus of Student Services is to address these issues through prevention and intervention strategies and programs to help students overcome challenges to learning and to achieve to high academic levels.
Through many of its programs, the department assists in the creation of safe and nurturing school environments that are conducive to learning.
